ACCELERATOR CABLE ADJUSTMENT
Accelerator Cable Adjustment
PROCEDURE:
1.
Check accelerator cable for end play.
2.
Cable end play should be within specification when the accelerator pedal is released and the engine is NOT operating.
Accelerator cable end play specification: 10-15 mm (0.4-0.6 in.).
3.
If not within specification, adjust by loosening the lock nut. Be sure to tighten lock nut securely after adjustment is made.
NOTE: Cable end play should be 3-5 mm (0.12-0.20 in.) when the throttle valve is in the idle position with the engine operating.

PROCEDURE:
1.
Make sure that the accelerator cable end play is within specification.
2.
Loosen the kick-down cable lock nut and adjusting nut considerably. (See illustration).
3.
With the aid of a second technician fully depress the accelerator pedal, pull the kick-down tight, in direction A. See illustration (figure 1).
4.
Turn the lock nut to within 1 mm (0.039 in.) of the cable bracket while the cable is being pulled tight.
