Axle Bearing: Service and Repair
Rear Axle With 8.6" or 9.5" Ring Gear

J2619-01 Slide Hammer

J 8092 Driver Handle

J 21128 Axle Shaft and Pinion Seal Installer

-

J 23689 Axle Bearing Shaft Remover (Large Shaft)

-

J 23690 Axle Shaft Bearing Installer

-

J 29709 Axle Shaft Bearing Installer

-

J 29712 Axle Shaft Bearing Remover (9 1/2 Inch Ring Gear)

-

J 29713 Axle Shaft Bearing Installer (9 1/2 Inch Ring Gear)

Removal Procedure 

1. Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.

2. Remove the axle shaft (1). 

Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (8.6" or 9.5" inch Ring Gear).

3. Remove the axle shaft seal (2) using the J 23689.

4. Remove the bearing (3) from the housing (5).

Use the J 23689 or the J 29712 and the J2619-01.

5. Inspect all the parts for damage. 

Replace the damaged or worn parts as necessary.
