Section 6B - Engine Cooling and Radiator - New Drive Belt Service Procedure
Models:
1994-96 Chevrolet and GMC C/K Models
with 6.5L Diesel Engine (VINs F, S - RPOs L65, L56)
This bulletin updates Section 6B "Cooling and Radiator" of the 1994-96 C/K Service Manuals. The current Service Manual information has been
changed to prevent breakage of the engine drive belt tensioner when removing and replacing the drive belt. This bulletin applies only to vehicles
equipped with diesel engines.
Drive Belt Service
Remove or Disconnect (Figure 1)
1.
Use a 1/2 inch breaker bar in the square hole provided in the belt tensioner to rotate tensioner counterclockwise and release belt tension.
Notice:
Do not rotate the tensioner clockwise. Also, do not allow the tensioner to snap into the "free" position. Either of these conditions could damage
the belt and/or the tensioner.
2.
Belt.
Install or Connect
1.
Route belt over all of the pulleys except the belt tensioner.
2.
Use a 1/2 inch breaker bar in the square hole provided in the belt tensioner to rotate the tensioner counterclockwise to the released position.
