Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove necessary access covers.
3.
Raise and support vehicle.
4.
Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold, then lower vehicle.
5.
Disconnect AIR hose from check valve.
6.
If removing left side manifold, proceed as follows:
a. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector.
b. On 1987 R and V models, remove A/C compressor rear bracket, if equipped.
c. On 1987 G models and all 1988-92 models, remove power steering pump bracket from the manifold.
7.
If removing right side manifold, proceed as follows:
a. On 1987 R and V models, disconnect AIR pipe from the diverter valve, and the diverter valve bracket from the manifold.
b. On 1987 G models and all 1988-92 models, disconnect dipstick tube bracket from the manifold.
c. On all models, remove heat stove pipe.
8.
Remove exhaust manifold attaching bolts, washers and tab washers, then remove manifold.
9.
Reverse procedure to install, using new gaskets.
