Torque Converter: Testing and Inspection
Flywheel and Torque Converter Vibration Test - 4L60-E Transmission
GENERAL PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine.
2. With the engine at idle speed and the transmission in "Park" or "Neutral," observe vibration.
3. Shut the engine off.
NOTICE: Some engine/transmission combinations cannot be balanced In this manner due to limited clearances between the torque converter
bolts and engine. Ensure the bolts do not bottom out In the lug nuts or the torque converter cover could be dented and cause Internal damage.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Torque converter cover attaching bolts if installed.
2. Torque converter access hole plugs if installed.
3. Torque converter to the flywheel bolts.
4. Rotate the torque converter 1/3 turn.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Torque converter to the flywheel bolts.

Tighten bolts to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
2. Torque converter cover bolts if installed.

Torque converter cover bolts to 33 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
3. Torque converter access hole plugs if installed.
4. Start the engine and check for vibration. Repeat the procedure until the best possible balance is obtained.
