Separate brake shoes by removing adjusting screw and spring, then unhook parking brake lever from shoe assembly.

Clean dirt from brake drum, backing plate and all other components.
WARNING: Do not use compressed air or dry brush to clean brake parts. which, if inhaled, can cause serious injury. Clean brake parts
with denatured alcohol, brake parts cleaner or a suitable vacuum cleaner to minimize airborne dust.

Leading/Trailing Brakes: Pushing Release Lever Off Its Stop
1.
Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2.
Mark relationship of brake drum to axle for installation reference, then remove the drum. If drum is difficult to remove, proceed as follows:
a. Ensure parking brake is fully released, then back off parking brake cable adjustment.
b. Remove plug from access hole in backing plate, then push parking brake lever off its stop using a suitable screwdriver.
