SERVICE PROCEDURE:
When replacing shock absorbers on 1988-89 C3 trucks, or when removing shocks during service, the upper ball joint seal may contact the frame if the
suspension is allowed to fully extend with the shock absorber removed. This condition could result in damage to the seal.
To prevent this, when the vehicle is raised for shock replacement, place a support such as a jack stand, or a transmission jack under the lower control arm
to prohibit full extension. Once the shock absorber is replaced or reinstalled, remove the support to allow free travel. Refer to Section 3C-12 of Service
Manual X-8931 for complete shock absorber replacement procedure.
