Flex Plate: Service and Repair
3L80 (400/475) Transmission

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove air cleaner assembly.

3.

Remove transmission fluid dipstick tube.

4.

Raise and support vehicle.

5.

Remove driveshaft from vehicle.

6.

Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors from transmission.

7.

Disconnect shift linkage assembly from transmission.

8.

Remove transmission support braces and flywheel cover.

9.

Mark position of torque converter and flywheel for installation.

10.

Remove torque converter to flywheel attaching bolts and/or nuts.

11.

Disconnect catalytic converter support bracket, if equipped from transmission.

12.

Remove transmission mount attaching bolts.

13.

Position a suitable jack under transmission, then raise transmission slightly.

14.

Remove transmission crossmember to frame attaching bolts, then slide crossmember rearward and out of vehicle.

15.

Lower transmission.

16.

Disconnect and cap transmission fluid cooler lines.

17.

Position a suitable jack under engine, then remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.

18.

Carefully separate transmission from engine. Install torque converter holding tool No. J-21366 and remove transmission from vehicle.

19.

Reverse procedure to install.
