Engine Front Cover: Service and Repair
Replacement, Engine Overhaul
DISASSEMBLY
1. Remove the crankshaft front oil seal. Pry the seal out with a screwdriver. If the cover is off the engine, drive the seal out with multiple hits on the
inside of the seal from the inside of the cover.
2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.
CLEANING AND INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Clean the sealer from the front cover and the engine case.
2. Inspect the following parts for damage:

The timing tab marker

The front cover
ASSEMBLY

Tools Required

J 22102 Crankshaft Seal Installer, Or Equivalent
1. Assemble the crankshaft front oil seal using the crankshaft seal installer. The open end of the seal must be facing the inside of the front cover.
2. Lightly coat the seal lips with grease.
3. Install the crankshaft position sensor.

Tighten the bolt to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
