Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Tools Required 
-

J 41816 Crankshaft Balancer Remover

-

J 41816-2 Crankshaft End Protector

-

J 42386-A Flywheel Holding Tool

-

J 41665 Crankshaft Balancer and Sprocket Installer

IMPORTANT:  Do not reuse the crankshaft balancer bolt. Install a NEW crankshaft balancer bolt during final assembly. 

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 

CAUTION:  Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions. 

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Starting and Charging.
3. Remove the upper radiator shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Cooling System.
4. Remove the drive belt. 
5. Remove the Cooling System fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
6. Remove the crankshaft balancer. 
7. Clean and inspect all parts. 

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1. Install the crankshaft balancer. 
2. Install the drive belt. 
3. Install the Cooling System fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Cooling System.
4. Install the upper radiator shroud. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement in Cooling System.
5. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (4,8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) in Starting and Charging.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
