Idle Speed: Adjustments
Base Idle Speed

NOTE:  Check ignition timing and valve clearances before making engine idle adjustment.

BASE IDLE SPEED ADJUSTMENT

-

Set parking brake and block drive wheels.

-

Place transmission in neutral.

-

Initial preparation:
-

Engine at normal operating temperature.

-

Choke open.

-

A/C off.

-

Air cleaner installed.

-

Distributor vacuum line, canister purge line, and EGR vacuum lines disconnected and plugged.

-

Idle compensator vacuum lined closed by bending rubber hose.

-

Adjust throttle adjust screw to specification. See: Specifications

-

If A/C is installed:
-

Turn A/C "ON", "Max COLD", blower on "HIGH".

-

Open the throttle to approximately 1/3 and allow the throttle to close. This allows the speed-up solenoid to reach full travel.

Adjust idle speed-up controller to base idle specification. See: Specifications
