Turn Signal Switch: Service and Repair

Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Remove steering wheel as described under STEERING WHEEL.

Refer to Fig. 4 to replace turn signal switch. On 1989 models, remove instrument panel trim cover.

Position a screwdriver blade into the steering shaft lock plate cover slot. Pry up and out to free the cover from the lock plate.

Screw the center post of puller J 23653-A (or substitute) onto the steering shaft as far as it will go. Compress the lock plate by turning the center
post nut clockwise. Pry the retaining ring out of the shaft, then remove the puller. If the column is being disassembled on a bench, the shaft
could slide out of the end of the mast jacket when the snap ring is removed.

Remove the lock plate.
7.
Remove the turn signal lever screw and lever.
8.
Remove the hazard warning knob by pressing the knob inward, then unscrew.
9.
Remove the turn signal mounting screws.
10.
Pull the switch connector from the bracket on the jacket and feed switch connector through the column support bracket, then pull the switch
straight up. guide the wiring harness through the column housing and protector.
11.
Remove the wire protector by pulling tab down and out of the column with pliers.
12.
Remove the turn signal switch.
13.
Reverse procedure to install.
