Column Shift
Description
1. Position transmission lever B clockwise to forward detent, then turn ignition switch to "LOCK."
2. Remove column lash by rotating lever J downward and tightening bolt C.
3. Turn ignition switch to "UNLOCK", then position transmission levers in Neutral To position levers in Neutral, move levers B and E to forward detent,
then turn counterclockwise one detent.
4. Align gage pin holes in levers H, J and K, then insert gage pin.
5. Repeat Step 2 for rod F and levers E and H.
6. Remove gage pin.
7. Place column lever in Reverse and check interlock control. Ignition should lock only when in Reverse.
4 Speed
Description
Transmission and shifter levers must be in Neutral position at time of rod assembly. A 0.250 inch gage pin must fit freely into gage pin hole when shifter
levers are positioned as outlined above.
Some 1982-83 C/K models equipped with V8-379 diesel engine and four speed 117mm. transmission may exhibit hard shifting, bearing or gear noise, or
Improper clutch operation. The above mentioned complaints may be caused by the transmission top cover protruding beyond the front face of the
transmission, resulting in transmission to engine misalignment If the vehicle exhibits an of the complaints noted, proceed as follows:
1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Using a 0.005 inch feeler gauge or shim, check for gaps between transmission and clutch housing.
3. If a gap or separation is noted, check for interference between top cover and clutch housing. If interference exists, proceed to next step.
4. Loosen, but do not remove, transmission to clutch housing attaching bolts.
