Subject:
Section 0 - General Information - DEXRON(R)-III Transmission Fluid Introduction
Models:
1995 and Prior Passenger Cars and Trucks
General Motors has phased in a new automatic transmission fluid, DEXRON(R)-III, that does not need replacing under normal service. DEXRON(R)-III
is designed to help the transmission deliver the best possible performance under all conditions. Refer to Figure 1.
The improvements in DEXRON(R)-III include better friction stability, more high temperature oxidation stability and better material compatibility.
DEXRON(R)-III has the same low temperature fluidity as DEXRON(R)-IIE, for better transmission performance in cold weather.
DEXRON(R)-IIE and DEXRON(R)-III are fully compatible.
DEXRON(R)-III is fully compatible with any General Motors passenger vehicle or light truck with automatic transmission and built since 1949.
Dealers should require their supplier to include the DEXRON(R)-III license number on all automatic transmission fluid invoices.
Starting February 1, 1994 DEXRON(R)-III was phased into all North American assembly plants.
DEXRON(R)-III fluid is available from GMSPO (see fluid numbers below):
