5. Connect magnetic pickup tachometer, tool J-26925, to engine.
6. With engine running at 1000 RPM in park, check fuel pressure. Pressure should be 8---12 PSI with no more than 2 PSI fluctuation. If vehicle is

equipped with Housing Pressure Cold Advance (HPCA) and housing pressure is zero, disconnect electrical connector from housing pressure cold
advance terminal, 

Figs. 63 and 64. If pressure remains zero, remove injection pump cover and check advance solenoid operation. If binding or not

operating, free up or replace parts as necessary. If pressure is normal after electrical lead is disconnected, check for proper operation of
temperature switch located on the cylinder head bolt.

7. If fuel pressure is too low, replace the fuel return line connector assembly. If fuel pressure is too high, the fuel return system may be restricted.

Remove the fuel return line at the injection pump, then install a fitting and short piece of hose to discharge the return line fuel into a suitable
container.

8. Recheck fuel injection pump housing fuel pressure. If fuel pressure is lower than in previous step, correct fuel restriction in fuel return line. If

pressure is still too high, replace fuel return line connector assembly. 

Whenever the fuel return line connector assembly is replaced, the

injection pump timing should be checked and reset as necessary. Refer to ``Injection Pump Timing.''

9. Recheck fuel injection pump housing fuel pressure. If still too high, remove injection pump for repair.

10. Remove tachometer, pressure gauge and adapters.
11. Install new pressure tap plug screw seal on the pressure tap plug or torque screw and replace in pump.
12. Remove screened covers and install crossover.
