RECALL: 1986-87 Accord Fuel Filler Pipe
(Supersedes 93-021, dated July 23, 1993)
PROBLEM
The potential problem is limited to cars that have been driven in a specific geographical area where corrosive road salt is used extensively to aid in snow
and ice control. If the protective coating of the fuel filler and/or separator pipe is damaged, salt water may accumulate between the coating and the steel
filler and/or separator pipes. This accumulation could cause corrosion that could eventually rust through the separator pipe or fuel filler pipe.
Rust-through allows fuel to leak during refueling, which creates a fire hazard.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
All owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail of this recall. Owners living in areas of heavy road salt use will be asked to take the car to a
dealer for inspection and repair. Owners living in other areas will be asked to take their cars to a dealer only if they are experiencing the problem or
suspect the car was repeatedly exposed to road salt.
