PROBLEM
The customer complains that the battery charge level is too low to crank the engine, yet testing indicates the starting and charging systems are operating
normally.
CAUSE
The battery can be drained if the rear window defogger is left "on" all the time and the car is driven short distances at low engine speeds.
Also, batteries subjected to high underhood temperatures will experience reduced service life.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
'86 and 87:
1.
Replace the existing defogger switch with a Rear Defogger Switch/Timer assembly which will shut off the defogger automatically after
approximately 25 minutes.
2.
Install a Battery Cover kit which will reduce the effects of high underhood temperatures.
3.
Test the battery to make sure it is fully charged.
'88 and 89:
1.
Install a Battery Cover kit which will reduce the effects of high underhood temperatures.
2.
Test the battery to make sure it is fully charged.
