Wheel Cylinder: Service and Repair

CAUTION: 

-

Do not spill brake fluid on the vehicle; it may damage the paint; if brake fluid does contact the paint, wash it off immediately with water.

To prevent spills, cover the hose joints with rags or shop towels.

Use only a genuine Honda wheel cylinder special bolt.

REPLACEMENT

1. Remove the brake shoes.See: Drum Brake System/Brake Shoe/Service and Repair
2. Disconnect the brake line from the wheel cylinder.

Cylinder Replacement

3. Remove the bolt and the wheel cylinder from the backing plate.
4. Apply sealant between the wheel cylinder and backing plate, and install the wheel cylinder.
5. Install the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

Specs:
Bleed Screw 7 Nm (5 lb.ft.)
Brake Line Nut (10 x 1.0mm)  19 Nm (14 lb.ft.)
Wheel Cylinder Bolts 9 Nm (6.5 lb.ft.)

6. Fill the brake reservoir up and bleed the brake system. See: Brake Bleeding/Service and Repair
7. After installation, check for a leak at the line joint, and retighten if necessary.
