Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
Engine Difficult to Start When Cold
NOTE: The system that could be the source of the symptom are listed and should be checked in the order they are listed, beginning with # 1.
1. Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (code 6)
2. Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor (code 3,5)
3. TDC/CRANK/CYL Sensor (code 4,8,9)
4. Engine Control Module (ECM) (BU)
NOTE:
(BU) Back-up code used when the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP is on. Jump the service check connector, if no code is
displayed (MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP stays on steady), the back-up system is in operation.
On Canadian models the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP is the CHECK ENGINE LAMP.
Fast Idle Out of Specification When Cold
CHECK IN ORDER LISTED:
1. Idle Air Control Valve (IAC) (code 14)
2. Other Idle Controls
a. Fast Idle Thermo Valve
b. Idle Adjusting Screw
3. Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (code 6)
4. ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) (BU) [1]
NOTE:
[1] With the Service Check Connector jumped and the engine is running, if the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP is ON with no "blinks",
the back-up system is in operation.
On Canadian models the MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WARNING LAMP is the CHECK ENGINE LAMP.
Frequent Stalling During Warm Up
