Bowed Rear License Plate Garnish

SYMPTOM

The top middle of the rear license plate garnish does not sit flush against the body.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The top of the garnish is held by double-sided tape. Tension from the license plate bolts pulls the tape away from the body.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the double-sided tape and install spacers so the license plate bolts do not distort the garnish.

1.

Remove the license plate.

2.

Remove the four garnish mounting nuts on the inside of the trunk lid.

3.

Working inside the trunk, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to squeeze the tabs on the hold-down clip in the center of the garnish. Remove the
garnish.

4.

Remove the double-sided tape from the top of the garnish.

5.

Clean the adhesive area on the garnish and trunk lid surfaces with rubbing alcohol.

6.

Allow the alcohol to dry, then apply the new double-sided tape to the garnish in the same location as the old piece.

7.

Reinstall the garnish on the trunk lid. Press on the top of the garnish for several seconds to make sure the tape sticks to the
trunk lid.

8.

Install the spacers over the weld nuts. Reinstall the license plate.
