Charge Lamp/Indicator: Testing and Inspection

Prior to performing test, check alternator belt tension and electrical connector for proper installation.

1.

With ignition switch On, charge warning lamp should illuminate. If charge warning lamp is not illuminated, proceed to step 5. If charge warning
lamp does illuminate proceed to step 2.

2.

Start engine, charge warning lamp should go off. If charge warning lamp does not go out, proceed to step 3. If charge warning lamp does go out,
charge warning light system is OK.

On Accord and Civic models, turn engine off and disconnect 4-P connector from alternator, then turn ignition switch on. If charge warning lamp
illuminates, repair short to ground in the WHT/BLU wire. If charge warning lamp does not illuminate, charge warning light system is OK.

4.

On Prelude models, turn engine off and disconnect 4-P connector from alternator, then turn ignition switch on. If charge warning lamp
illuminates, disconnect ABS, 4WS and integrated control unit, if equipped. If light still stays on, repair short to ground in the WHT/BLU wire. If
charge warning lamp does not illuminate, WHT/BLU wire is OK; perform ALTERNATOR & REGULATOR TEST.

5.

Turn ignition switch off and check fuse No. 2 on Accord models, No. 24 on Civic models, No. 19 on Prelude models without SRS and No. 23 on
Prelude models with SRS. If fuse is blown, replace it. If fuse is OK, proceed to step 6.

6.

Disconnect 4-P connector from alternator and turn ignition switch on, then check for voltage at the IG (BLK/YEL wire) terminal of 4-P connector.
If battery voltage is not present, repair open in BLK/YEL wire. If battery voltage is present, proceed to step 7.

7.

Ground WHT/BLU wire at L terminal of 4-P connector. If charge warning light does not come on, repair either a blown charge system light bulb
or an open in the WHT/BLU wire. If charge warning light does come on, replace voltage regulator.
