High Temperature Gauge ReadingPROBLEM
High temperature reading under otherwise normal conditions, in an '84 Civic with Nippondenso gauges (identified by the "ND" mark on the lower edge
of the gauge cluster).
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Install a 5-ohm resistor (H/C 1949825) in-line at the temperature sender:
^
Disconnect the sender wire and reconnect it to one end of the resistor.
^
Connect the other end of the resistor to the sender.
2.
Start the engine and let it warm up to normal idle temperature (when the fan goes on), then check the gauge again. If properly calibrated, the
gauge should have moved 1/2 to 5/8 of the way toward HOT and stayed there (indicating a coolant temperature of 190~ to 200~ F.).
