Low Gear One-Way Clutch Failure

SYMPTOM

When the engine is cold, the car will not move in "D" but does move when "R" or "2" is selected.

CAUSE

The one-way clutch slips.

AFFECTED TRANSMISSIONS

1984:

AW1050705 - on

1985:

AW1500001 - AW1524970

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the original one-way clutch with H/C 0898403. The parking gear (H/C 0971671) and the countershaft low gear (H/C 0888131) must also be
replaced because they may be damaged. Follow the procedure on the back of this page.
REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Raise the car on a hoist.

2.

Remove the right front wheel.

3.

Remove the undercarriage cover so you can get to the transmission end cover.

4.

Remove the dipstick.

5.

Drain the transmission fluid.

6.

Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

7.

Remove the transmission mount from the transmission.

8.

Lower the transmission so you can get to the end cover bolts.
