Apply foam tape to the new shift cable cover and to the transmission.

Remove and discard the spring clip and the control pin. Then separate the shift cable from the control lever.

If you cannot remove the control pin by hand due to corrosion, go to step 6.

If you can remove the control pin by hand, go to step 7.
6.
Replace the shift cable. Refer to the 2002-03 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-165. Use the shift cable kit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
7.
Using brake cleaner and a clean shop towel, clean the shift cable, and the control lever.
