1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle. Remove rear wheel(s).

2.

Position a suitable jack under rear axle beam, Fig. 4.

3.

Working inside vehicle, remove shock absorber maintenance lid, then the self-locking nut, Fig. 4.

4.

Remove self-locking bolt, shock absorber assembly and spring cushion.

5.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque shock absorber upper self-locking nut to 16 ft. lbs. on 1984-87 models, 29 ft. lbs. on 1988 models; and
self-locking bolt to 40 ft. lbs.
