Piston: Testing and Inspection

1. Check the piston for distortion or cracks.

NOTE:  If cylinder is bored, an oversized piston must be used.

2. Measure piston diameter at distance A from the bottom of the skirt.

A: 5 mm (0.2 inch)

Piston Diameter:

Standard (New): 80.98-80.99 mm (3.1882-3.1886 inch)

Service Limit: 80.97 mm (3.1878 inch)

3. Calculate the difference between the cylinder bore diameter and piston diameter.

Piston-to-Cylinder Clearance

Standard (New): 0.010-0.040 mm (0.0004-0.0016 inch)

Service Limit: 0.05 mm (0.002 inch)

If the clearance is near or exceeds the service limit, inspect the piston and cylinder block for excessive wear.

Oversize Piston Diameter:

0.25: 81.23-81.24 mm (3.1980-3.1984 inch)
