Instrument Panel Buzz With the Brake Pedal Depressed
SYMPTOM
A buzzing or fluttering noise is heard in the instrument panel with the brake pedal depressed and the engine idling in any gear.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The vacuum check valve for the brake booster is vibrating.
DIAGNOSIS
With the vehicle idling in Neutral or Park, depress the brake pedal. If you hear a slight buzzing or fluttering noise coming from the area of the instrument
panel, open the hood. Have an assistant depress the brake pedal while you touch the vacuum check valve to confirm the source of the noise.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the vacuum check valve with the new part listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
1.
Disconnect the vacuum hoses from the clips on the bulkhead.
2.
Expand the clamps, and slide them up the vacuum hoses. Remove the check valve.
3.
Install the new check valve. Reinstall the clamps.
4.
Snap the vacuum hoses back into the clips.
