Scraping Noise While Turning the Steering Wheel

SYMPTOM

A scraping sound is heard coming from the steering column while turning the steering wheel.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The wire harness for the airbag is against the SRS cable reel assembly.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the SRS cable reel assembly.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Make sure the front wheels and steering wheel are in the straight ahead position.

2.

Record the customer's radio station presets.

3.

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
