Thermostat: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
NOTE: Before starting, Perform these steps:

Disconnect battery ground cable.
-
Drain Engine Coolant from the radiator and engine.
-
Disconnect radiator hose from the inlet pipe.

3. Thermostat
INSPECTION
-
Suspend the thermostat in a water-filled container using thin wire. Place a thermometer next to the thermostat.
-
Do not directly heat the thermostat.
-
Gradually increase the water temperature. Stir the water so that the entire water is same temperature.
-
Confirm the temperature when the valve first begins to open.
-
Valve opening temperature is 74.5 - 78.5°C (166.1 - 173.3°F).
-
Confirm the temperature when the valve is fully opened.
-
Valve full open at 10 mm (0.39 inch) at temperature 90°C (194°F).
-
Make necessary repair and parts replacement if extreme wear or damage is found during inspection.
INSTALLATION
1. Thermostat [3]
-
Install thermostat into the thermostat housing, making sure that the jiggle valve in up position.
2. Packing [2]
3. Inlet pipe [1]
-
Connect inlet pipe and tighten bolts to 19 Nm (14 ft. lbs.).
-
Installation rubber hose
-
Replenish Engine Coolant (EC).
-
Start engine and check for EC leakage.
