Changing the Transmission Fluid 

There is no need to change the transmission fluid unless the vehicle is used under one or more of the following conditions:

a. Repeated short trips.
b. Driving on rough roads.
c. Driving on dusty roads
d. Towing a trailer.

If the vehicle is used under these conditions, change the fluid every 20,000 miles (32,000 km) 

Procedure

1. Place a large drain pan under vehicle.
2. Remove the transmission oil drain plug, and drain fluid.
3. Install and tighten drain plug to: 38 Nm (28 ft.lb.) 
4. Remove the transmission overfill plug and fill transmission through the transmission overfill plug opening, using DEXTRON(R)-III ATF.
5. Allow the engine to idle until it reaches normal temperature.
6. Add transmission fluid until it flows out over the transmission overfill plug opening, then close, and tighten the plug to: 38 Nm (28 ft.lb.)
