Air Bag: Service and Repair

Store a removed airbag assembly with the pad surface up. If the air bag is stored face down, accidental deployment could propel the unit with enough
force to cause serious injury.

Driver Side Airbag

1.

Disconnect battery negative and positive terminals.

2.

Remove maintenance lid below the airbag, then remove short connector.

3.

Disconnect connector between airbag and cable reel.

Connect short connector to airbag side of airbag(s) connector, Figs. 1 and 2.

5.

Remove two attaching bolts, then airbag assembly.

6.

Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Ensure SRS wiring is not pinched during reassembly.
b. Ensure battery cables are disconnected.
c. Torque new airbag attaching bolts to 7 Ft. Lbs.
d. Turn ignition switch on and observe instrument panel SRS indicator light. It should come on for approximately six seconds, then turn off.
