Heater Core: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2.
Disconnect heater hoses at heater and install plugs in core tubes.
3.
Disconnect heater valve cable from heater, then move front seats to there full rearward position.
4.
Remove instrument panel as described in BODY ELECTRICAL SAFETY AND ENTERTAINMENT/INSTRUMENT PANELS AND
CLUSTERS.
5.
Remove heater duct from under heater assembly.
6.
Remove heater assembly lower mounting nuts, then the steering column support bracket.
7.
Remove two heater assembly mounting bolts, then disconnect wire harness connector from function control motor.
8.
Remove heater assembly from vehicle.
9.
Remove integrated control unit and bracket from heater assembly.
10.
Remove set plate and heater core cover attaching screws.
11.
Remove heater core setting plate and clamp attaching screws.
12.
Pull heater core out of housing, removing function control motor if necessary.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply a suitable sealant to grommets.
b. Ensure inlet and outlet hoses are not interchanged.
c. Bleed cooling system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/COOLING SYSTEM BLEED section.
d. Slide temperature control lever to the HOT position, then turn air mix door shaft arm to left and connect end of air mix cable to arm. Gently
slide cable outer housing back from end enough to take any slack out of cable, then snap cable housing into clamp.
e. Slide temperature control lever to HOT position, then connect heater valve cable end to arm and snap cable housing into clamp. Ensure arm
turns full stroke smoothly. Slide control lever back to COLD position, then turn heater valve arm to close and connect cable end to arm, Fig.
17. Gently slide cable housing back from end enough to take any slack out of cable, then snap cable housing into clamp.
