Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Discharge refrigerant.

3. Disconnect liquid tube "B" and suction hose from evaporator Fig. 13. Cap open fittings immediately to keep moisture and dirt out of system.
4. Remove water drain hose from evaporator.
5. Remove two screws and grommet cover from dash panel.
6. Remove seven clips, holding upper case to lower case.
7. Remove upper case. Be careful not to damage thermostatic switch wiring.
8. Remove thermostatic switch with thermistor and its mounting clip from evaporator unit.
9. Remove evaporator unit from lower case.
10. Disconnect capillary tube from outlet fitting of evaporator.
11. Disconnect liquid tube and suction tube from inlet and outlet fittings of expansion value.
12. Remove packing and heat sensing tube from suction tube of evaporator.
13. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. heck evaporator fins for blockage. If fins are clogged, clean them with compressed air. Never use water to clean evaporator.
b. Check fittings for cracks or scratches.
c. Torque expansion valve to evaporator inlet fitting nut to 17 ft. lbs. Ensure O-rings are positioned on tube fitting.
