Camshaft: Service and Repair
Installation
1. Apply engine oil to journals and lobes of camshafts, then install camshafts on cylinder head. Intake camshaft has a slit on rear end for driving
crank angle sensor.
2. Install camshaft bearing caps. Bearing caps are marked with either an "R" or "L" and a number. "L" caps are for intake camshaft, "R"
caps are for exhaust camshaft, and number identifies journal number front to rear.
3. Ensure camshafts can be easily turned by hand, then remove bearing caps and camshafts.
4. Install lash adjusters and rocker arms, then the camshafts and bearing caps, ensuring dowel pins on camshaft sprocket ends are located on top.

5. Tighten bearing caps to specifications in two or three steps in sequence shown in Fig. 28.
Tighting Torque: 19-21 N.m (190-210 kg.cm, 14-15 lb.ft).
6. Apply engine oil to external surface of camshaft oil seals, then using camshaft seal installer tool Nos. 09221-21000 and camshaft oil seal guide
09221-21100, or their equivalents, insert oil seals along camshaft front end and drive in until seals are fully seated.
7. Install camshaft sprockets and tighten to specifications.
