Hold upper spring seat from rotating, then remove insulator retaining nut and washer. Discard nut.

Remove insulator, spring seat, spring and rubber bumper, Fig. 1.

Mount strut assembly in vise, then remove oil seal and retaining nut using tool 09546-21000 or equivalent. Discard nut.

6.

Drain fluid, then remove O-ring from strut tube. Discard O-ring.

7.

Pull piston rod and guide upward and remove from strut tube.

ASSEMBLY

1.

Apply shock fluid to sliding surfaces of piston rod and strut tube, then install piston rod into tube.

2.

Fill strut tube with approximately 240 cc of shock fluid, then slide piston guide over rod.

3.

Lubricate and install new O-ring into strut tube.

4.

Lubricate oil seal with shock fluid, then install oil seal and retaining nut into strut tube. Tighten nut until bottom edge contacts tube.

5.

Compress coil spring and install spring onto strut assembly, ensuring painted mark on spring faces toward steering knuckle.

6.

Install rubber bumper, spring seat, insulator and washer.

7.

Align D-shaped hole in spring seat with dent on piston rod, then install retaining nut. While preventing spring seat from rotating, torque retaining
nut to 29-36 ft. lbs.

8.

Pack grease into cavity, then install insulator cap.

INSTALLATION

1.

Install strut assembly into wheel house.

2.

Torque strut to wheel house retaining nuts to 7-11 ft. lbs. and strut to steering knuckle retaining nuts and bolts to 54-65 ft. lbs.

3.

Reattach brake hose to strut assembly, then bleed brake system and install wheel/tire assembly.
