PUSH ROD CLEARANCE MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
The vacuum booster has an adjustable push rod which is used to compensate for dimensional variations in an assembled booster. The push rod length is
adjusted after each booster unit has been assembled in production and should never require a service adjustment.
However, an improper push rod clearance may cause brake drag if the push rod is too long or excess pedal travel if it is too short.
Booster push rod clearance can be checked and, if necessary, adjusted properly using the following procedure.
NOTE:
Prior to adjusting push rod, please verify that the stop lamp switch is adjusted correctly.
MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE:
1.
Remove master cylinder
2.
Measure dimensions B and C as shown in the sketch
3.
With engine idling (to provide approximately 500 mmHG vacuum), measure push rod dimension "D" as shown in the sketch.
4.
Calculate booster push rod to master cylinder piston clearance dimension "A" (clearance A = B - C - D)
5.
If the clearance "A" is not zero, adjust the push rod length by turning the screw of the push rod.
6.
Install master cylinder and bleed hydraulic system using the procedure in the shop manual.
