Subject
MODIFICATION OF RADIATOR RESERVOIR CAP HOSE
Illustration # 1
The purpose of the coolant reservoir is to save the coolant to refill the radiator automatically when the engine cools down. Vacuum in the radiator,
created by the cool-down of the engine, will draw the coolant from the reservoir back into the system. If the reservoir cap hose touches the bottom of the
reservoir, it will not allow the coolant to return to the radiator when the engine cools down. This could result in the engine overheating upon future
driving, due to a low coolant level in the system.
To prevent this situation, the reservoir cap hose has been modified on Sonatas effective April 10, 1990 and on Excels effective June 4, 1990. The part
number remains unchanged.
Should you encounter this situation on vehicles previous to the change, shorten the reservoir cap hose 10 mm and cut its end at an angle at shown in the
illustration # 1.
