DESCRIPTION:
This bulletin provides a general description and diagnostic information for DTC P1330
(Spark Timing Adjust) on vehicles equipped with Melco engine management system.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
^
1999 - 2005 Sonata (EF) 2.4L
^
2001 - 2004 Santa Fe (SM) 2.4L
^
2003 - 2006 Santa Fe (SM) 3.5L

SERVICE PROCEDURE:
DEFINITION OF DTC P1330:
1. Name: Spark Timing Adjustment.
2. Detecting Conditions:
Diagnostic Code P1330 is a temporary diagnostic code that is set when the "Spark Timing Adjusting" terminal of the PCM is grounded. This pin is
grounded through the vehicle's Multipurpose Check Connector during vehicle assembly for engine calibration purposes, and its function is not intended
to be used during service or troubleshooting of the vehicle. The code is automatically cleared when the "Spark Timing Adjusting" terminal is removed
from the ground connection. When diagnosing a vehicle with a DTC P1330 stored in the PCM, verify the "Spark Timing Adjusting" terminal of the
PCM and the harness between the PCM and the vehicle's Multipurpose Check Connector are not grounded.
3. Effect on OBD System:
P1330 does not affect OBD-related Systems or monitors.
4. Fault Code Storage/Erase, MIL illumination and Freeze Frame storage erase:
a. Pending fault code: It does not store.
b. Confirmed fault code and freeze frame storage / MIL illumination:
Immediately after fault detected, fault code and freeze frame data are stored and MIL illuminates
c. Confirmed fault code erase and MIL cleared: Immediately after fault fixed, fault code will erase and MIL is cleared.
d. Freeze frame data erase: The freeze frame data is erased only by a scantool command.
5. Repair Procedures:
If diagnosing a complaint of intermittent or recent MIL illumination with no DTCs present, check freeze frame data. If the cause was due to a fault
detected by P1330, freeze frame information should still be available and indicate that P1330 was the DIG that caused the freeze frame data to be stored.
To diagnose and repair a P1330 fault, inspect related connector or wiring harness. 5-1): Data Link/Check Connector Terminal and Connector inspection:
