APPLIES TO: 1999-2003 SONATA, 2001-03 ELANTRA, SANTA FE & XG300/350, 2003 TIBURON
SERVICE TIP:
DESCRIPTION:
DTC P1723 may be accompanied by the following symptoms:

MIL illuminated
^
Transaxle held in 3rd gear fail-safe
^
Harsh shift into Reverse or Drive
If you are servicing a vehicle with these symptoms, follow the repair procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Refer to the applicable ETM and check the A/T control relay fuse in the engine compartment (for other model years, refer to the applicable ETM):
2. If the fuse is - (see Illustration):
3. Check the control wiring harness between the fuse and TCM/PCM and between the fuse, A/T control relay and solenoid connector on the transaxle
for a short to ground (see chart above). Repair or replace the harness. FOR 1999 SONATA ONLY: If the wiring harness does not contain an open
or a short, go to Step 4.
DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR PROCEDURE FOR BLOWN (OPEN) A/T CONTROL RELAY FUSE (1999 SONATA ONLY):
NOTE: The solenoid harness was revised on Sonatas produced after 5/13/99.
4. Drain the engine coolant from the radiator.
5. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator.
