SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1994 or 1995 J30 built prior to December 7, 1994 makes a metallic "rattle" noise at the rear muffler (especially during idle), before replacing the
rear muffler, perform the following procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1.

Check the U-clamp at the left front muffler inlet pipe.

2.

If the U-clamp is loose, torque each nut several times to 15-20 ft-lb.

3.

Make sure the U-clamp is tight and that there is no "slip" in the joint where the front muffler pipe fits into the rear muffler pipe.

4.

Test the vehicle to make sure the rattle noise is gone.

5.

If the noise is not gone, use a stethoscope with the engine at idle to make sure the noise is coming from the rear muffler itself.
