Catalytic Converter: Description and Operation

Catalytic Converters

Three Way Catalytic Converters - Except Vehicles with Diesel Engine

The three way catalytic converters consist of palladium / rhodium coated elements. These elements are utilized to control the emissions of hydrocarbons
(HC), carbon monoxide (CO) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from the engine.

The catalytic converters are connected to the exhaust manifold by a two bolt self-sealing flange. Exhaust jointing compound must not be applied to these
self-sealing joints due to the possibility of catalytic converter contamination. Avoid allowing any foreign particles of debris into the catalytic downpipe
as this can result in damage to the catalytic converter.
