Trunk / Liftgate Hinge: Service and Repair

Luggage Compartment Lid Hinge (76.19.28)

Removal

1. CAUTION:  Before slackening hinge securing bolts, ensure that trunk lid is sufficiently supported to prevent paintwork damage.

Remove hinge cover.

2. Sever and discard tie straps securing harness to hinge (RH hinge only) and position harness clear of hinge.

3. Disconnect gas strut rod end from from hinge pivot.
4. Slacken and remove bolts securing hinge to trunk lid.

5. Slacken and remove bolts securing hinge to underside of BIW saddle panel.

6. Remove hinge from vehicle.

Installation

1. Fit and tighten bolts securing hinge to BIW saddle panel.
2. Fit but do not tighten bolts securing hing to trunk lid.
3. Ensuring that harness is clear (RH hinge only), carefully close trunk lid and check and adjust lid alignment as necessary.
4. Tighten bolts securing hinge to trunk lid.
5. Fit gas strut rod end to hinge pivot ensuring that securing clip fully seats.
6. Using new tie straps, secure harness to trunk hinge (RH hinge only).
7. Fit cover to hinge.
