Axle Shaft Assembly: Service and Repair

1.
Remove driveaxle from vehicle.
2.
Secure driveaxle in vise and remove two circlips (2) from one universal joint. Fig. 13.
3.
Tap one on bearing to remove the opposite bearing.
4.
Remove shaft assembly from vise and trap displaced bearing in vise.
5.
Tap shaft away from bearing. Retrieve bearing and install driveaxle in vise.
6.
Remove second bearing by tapping joint spider along length of shaft yoke.
7.
Remove two grease seals from spider (4) Fig. 13.
8.
Detach spider, with end section of driveaxle, from center section of shaft.
9.
Place end section of shaft in vise and repeat removal procedure for remaining two bearings.
10.
Remove spider from end section of shaft. Repeat procedure for universal joint at opposite end of driveaxle.
