Parking Brake Cable: Adjustments

1. Move the driver's seat fully forward, position the seat backrest fully forward, unscrew the handbrake lever cover securing screw and remove the

cover.

2. Move the carpet for access to the seat belt slider rail cover. Remove the cover and remove the slider rail securing bolt.
3. Move the slider rail and sill carpet to allow access to remove the slider rail spacer.

4. Unscrew the handbrake cable adjuster locknuts.
5. Raise the vehicle and reposition the main hand brake cable rubber seal. Move the handbrake ratio levers inward. 
6. Disconnect the main handbrake cable from the ratio lever cable abutments and reposition the cable.
7. Unscrew, but do not remove the fulcrum shaft/ratio lever securing nuts. Position the ratio levers to the abutment brackets to give a 1mm to 3mm

(0.039 to 0.118 in.) gap. Tighten the fulcrum shaft/ratio lever securing nuts.

NOTE;  Ensure the ratio levers do not move while tightening the fulcrum shaft/ratio lever securing nuts.

8. Install the hand brake cable to the ratio lever.
9. Fit and fully seat the cable in the abutment.

10. Install the rubber cable seal.
11. Move the ratio levers inward. Install and fully seat the cable to the opposite ratio lever abutment.
12. Remove the roadwheel and tire assembly.

13. Turn the hub assembly and align the disc/hub access hole (2) to the handbrake shoe adjuster. Turn the adjuster counter-clockwise until the shoes

contact the disc. Turn the adjuster clockwise until the disc can be turned freely.

14. Repeat the procedure to adjust the opposite side rear hand brake shoes.
15. Install the roadwheels, tighten to 88 to 1O2 Nm (65.1 to 75.5 ft lb).
16. Adjust the cable so that the handbrake is set after three to four notches of the handbrake ratchet are felt.
17. Tighten the locknuts to 19 to 24 Nm (14 to 17.7 ft lb).
18. Refit the slider rail spacer. Reposition the sill carpet. Refit the slider rail to position and fit and tighten the securing bolt. Fit the securing bolt cover

and reposition the floor carpet.

19. Install the handbrake lever cover. Fit and tighten the cover securing screw.
