Cable Reel Cassette, Renew

Cable Reel Cassette

NOTE:  If steering rack is disconnected, DO NOT TURN STEERING WHEEL. Lock the steering column in the straight ahead position or remove
steering wheel to prevent this from turning, thus changing the position of the Cable Reel Cassette.

Before refitting new parts, ensure steering system and cassette is centralized.
Before driving car on road, ensure steering wheel can be rotated from lock to lock and airbag and horn still work.

Ensure steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.

Disconnect the battery and wait for one minute before attempting airbag removal.

Remove driver's side underscuttle pad.

Remove steering column upper and lower cowl.

Remove driver's airbag module.

-

Remove steering wheel.

-

Remove switch assembly from the cable reel cassette/mounting bracket and disconnect multi-plugs.

Disconnect cable reel cassette multi-plug and remove cassette.

Refer to the above and the following notes and assemble components in reverse order to removal procedure. 

NOTE:  When using a new cassette, the shear tape should be intact with arrows correctly aligned.

When using an old cassette, the tape should be checked for centralization by overriding the mechanical ratchet and turning the cassette
anti-clockwise to its end stop.
It should then be turned clockwise for two full turns; this centralizes the cable tape inside the cassette. The two arrows on the cassette housing
should be used as a guide during this operation.
Extreme care should be taken not to over tighten the tape at its end stop as this could cause severe damage to the tape, making it necessary to
renew the cassette unit.
Always remove airbag module before removing steering column from car.
