ISSUE:
Some 1995-96 MY Sedan Range vehicles may experience knocking noises from the front shock absorbers.
To overcome concerns of knocking noises from the lower shock absorber mounting, the torque specification for the mounting nut has been raised to 51.6
lb. ft. (70 Nm) from VIN 777889.
ACTION:
After verifying a customer complaint of knocking noises from the front shock absorbers, perform the following checks on both sides of the vehicle:
ALL VEHICLES
1.
To obtain access to upper mounting nut of the shock absorber the following items must be removed or moved aside:
4.0L vehicles only:
Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFS) connector; Intake Air Temperature Sensors (IATS) connector.
MAFS and associated hoses and air duct; PCV hose.
Left side fender to hood seal, inner fender cover, coolant expansion tank. 6.0L vehicles only:
Air cleaner to induction elbow hoses.
On right side, disconnect PCV hose and Idle Air Control Valve (IATS) hose from the induction elbow hose.
Left side fender to hood seal, inner fender cover, coolant expansion tank.
