Differential Pinion Oil Seal - Correct Special Tools

This technical bulletin should be read with Technical Bulletin 205-03.

ISSUE:

Technical Bulletin 205-03 "Pinion Oil Seal" refers to the use of Special Tool 100-005 to pull the coupling flange off the splines of the pinion shaft.

This Tool is NOT suitable for pulling the coupling flange in the vehicle. Do NOT attempt to remove the coupling, using Tool 100 - 005.

This bulletin describes how to use either Special Tool 303 - 588 or Special Tool 303 - 209 (18G 1436A) (Crankshaft Damper Removal Tools) to remove
the coupling flange.

ACTION:

REMOVING COUPLING FLANGE IN-VEHICLE

1.

Assemble either Special Tool 303-588 or Special Tool 303-209 to the Coupling Flange as shown in Illustration 1, using 1/4 inch or 6 mm nuts,
bolts (2 each) and washers through the tool base and the coupling flange. Note that nuts and bolts of larger diameter cannot be used since the holes
in either tool and the coupling flange do not align perfectly.

2.

Rotate the center bolt of the tool to draw the coupling from the splines of the pinion shaft.

3.

In the event of rotation of the tool and coupling during step 2 above, Tool 205 - 053 (Drive Shaft Flange Wrench) may he employed to prevent
rotation.
