Transfer Case Actuator: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Drain lubricant from pan, then disconnect vacuum harness from shift motor.
3. Remove shift motor housing retaining bolts, then the housing, shift motor and fork assembly.

DISASSEMBLY

1. Scribe alignment marks on shift fork and housing to aid in assembly.
2. Rotate shift motor, then remove shift fork and motor retaining rings.
3. Remove shift motor from housing.
4. Remove O-ring from shift motor.

ASSEMBLY

1. Install replacement O-ring onto shift motor.
2. Install shift motor into housing, then slide shift fork onto shaft, aligning scribe marks made previously.
3. Install shift fork and motor retaining rings.

INSTALLATION

1. Engage shift fork into collar, then install shift motor housing retaining bolts. Torque bolts to 8 ft. lbs.
2. Reconnect vacuum harness to shift motor, then add lubricant to proper level.
3. Lower vehicle.
