TO ACCOMPLISH THIS, THE LARGE PLASTIC THREADED ADAPTOR MUST BE UNSCREWED FROM THE ONE END OF THE
TACH GENERATOR AND REINSTALLED ONTO THE OTHER END OF THE TACH GENERATOR UNIT. EXERCISE CARE SO
NOT TO DAMAGE THE THREADS. SEE FIGURE 2.

1.

Slide the rubber bulkhead grommet over the speedometer cable and install the new cable using the procedure outlined in the appropriate
service manual. Make sure there are no sharp bends or kinks and make sure that the cable is aligned as straight as possible with the
speedometer head. Do not attempt to straighten a kinked or bent speedometer cable because once a cable is kinked, it is impossible to
satisfactory straighten the cable. Bent or kinked cables must be replaced.

If the vehicle is equipped with cruise control, install the tach generator to the lower cable making sure the tach generator electrical wires do
not interfere with the foot pedals.

On vehicles equipped with cruise control, install the upper cable to the rear of the speedometer head and install the instrument cluster into the
dash. Then screw the upper cable to the tach generator unit.

On vehicles without cruise control, gently pull some of the cable through the dash and connect the cable to the rear of the speedometer and
then install the instrument cluster into the dash.

On all vehicles, insure that the left hand side air conditioning duct does not interfere with speedometer cable routing under the dash. Also,
make sure the ignition key/shift interlock cable does not interfere with the speedometer cable. NOTE: If there is contact between the
speedometer cable and the A/C duct or the shift interlock cable, speedometer needle flutter may result.

5.

Route the lower speedometer cable away from oxygen sensor on 4.0L engine applications.

6.

Install the grommet into the bulkhead and attach the "P-clip" on to the lower control arm pivot bolt.

7.

Attach the cable to the speedometer gear adaptor and by using a crows foot, torque to 35 in.lbs.

8.

Connect the negative battery cable.

9.

Road test vehicle to be sure that the speedometer needle flutter has been eliminated.
