White Lower Body Exterior Cladding Turns Yellow (Discolors)

MODELS:

Cherokee (RWD, 4WD) (White [GW7] Limited Models Only)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Some of the White Cherokee Limited models may exhibit yellowing or discoloration of the lower side body cladding. This condition occurs in areas
where road salt or other chemicals are used to remove ice and snow from the roads. This condition can be corrected by applying a sealer/primer and
color coat on the cladding.

NOTE:

IF ONE PIECE OF CLADDING IS DISCOLORED, ALL EIGHT PIECES WILL HAVE TO BE PAINTED TO MAINTAIN CONSISTENT
COLOR.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This procedure covers the preparation and painting process for repairing yellowing or discolored body lower side cladding.

NOTE:

ALTHOUGH BASF AND 3M MATERIALS ARE SPECIFIED IN THE FOLLOWING REPAIR, EQUIVALENT MATERIALS MAY BE
USED.

1.

Clean all body lower cladding with a soap and water solution to remove all road dirt, rinse thoroughly.

2.

Clean all body lower cladding with 900 Pre-Kleano or 905 Prep-Kleano.

3.

Sand all body cladding with a red 3M Scotch Brite pad.

4.

Clean all the sanding residue off the sanded area with 901 Pre-Paint cleaner or 905 Prep-Cleaner.

5.

Mask the area adjacent to the lower body cladding as required.

6.

Mix DP-21 Color-It Primer, to be used as a sealer, as follows:

Step A.

Mixing Ratio 1:1

1 Part DP-21 Color-It Primer
1 Part Diamond Solo Color (RM 18238) or Tinting Base

Step B.

Mixing Ratio 2:1:30%

2 Parts DP-21 / Solo Color Mixture
1 Part DH60 Diamond HS Hardener
30% PR80 Diamond Prime Reducer

NOTE: THE 30% IS BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF PRIMER BEFORE ADDING THE HARDENER.

NOTE: DS-30 MAY BE USED IN PLACE OF THE DP-21 COLOR-IT PRIMER.

7.

Apply the DP-21, as a sealer to the body lower cladding.

NOTE: WHEN APPLYING DP-21 AS A SEALER, APPLY 1 OR 2 COATS OF DP-21 COLOR-IT PRIMER, USING 45-60 OF PRESSURE

AT THE GUN. ALLOW THE DP-21 TO DRY 15 TO 20 MINUTES (AT 68 DEGREES F) BEFORE APPLYING THE COLOR
COAT. (DO NOT SAND BEFORE APPLYING THE COLOR COAT).

8.

Apply Diamont Solo Urethane (Stock No. RM 18238) and allow to dry thoroughly.
